Custom Cedar Deck

As far as spaces in (or around) a home are concerned, the deck tends to be one of the most favorite. Decks add usable square feet to the home and help complete the aesthetic of any home, old or new.

Having a personalized space outside the home provides an awesome opportunity for everything from quiet mornings with coffee or big gatherings with family and friends. When a deck is done right, it requires little maintenance and will last for years to come.

We recently completed a custom cedar deck in Lincoln, NE to get out with the old, and in with the new. We chose cedar because it’s extremely durable when it comes to wear and tear, and can withstand even the harshest conditions—not to mention it looks amazing.

The deck before was bowing in the middle, so we upgraded the 2×6’s and 2×8’s on 4×4 footings to 2×10’s with 6×6 footings, with 2×12’s to hold everything together.

In addition to the lagging the deck into the rim joist, boxing out posts at the connection point help to secure the deck to the house. This is just one of the details that set Carlson Projects apart from other remodelers, ensuring a long-lasting project.

Composite materials work great, but using custom cedar looks great for the homeowner (and the neighbors) and we love using it… and smelling it while we work.

The slats of the deck doubled as a privacy fence that still allows light to illuminate between the gaps. Another detail you won’t notice is screw-holes or fasters! We used concealed fasteners, or as we call them “camo screws,” that toe-nail into the side of the deck board so you can’t see them, which adds to the clean look of this custom cedar deck.
